COLLECTIONS

Sir Dorabji Tata Memorial Library develops and provides essential and specialized information resources and services to meet the growing information needs by;

  • Developing user-based resources,

  • Organising information resources

  • Providing human and technologically moderated access to information; and

  • Aiding users to identify, locate, obtain and evaluate information.

Books and Journals:

Library has a specialized collection of resources taking into consideration the course contents and research needs of all the schools and centres of the Institute. Library employs a strong collection development policy and on an average, three thousand books are added to the collection every year. As on date it has a stock of about 1,24,000 volumes.

Library subscribes to over 10,298 scholarly print and e-journals and receives several journals on exchange and gratis. It has acquired about 1600 audio-visual materials.

E-Journals and Online Databases:

SDTM Library is one of the leading social science libraries in the country to provide access to e-journals and e-books in the field of social sciences. As on today, more than 10,298 full text online journals are available for access. It is one of the first universities in wetsern india to be part of the UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium initiated by UGC in 2003 to provide electronic access over the Internet to scholarly literature in all areas of learning to the university sector in India.

UGC has set up this programme to promote use of electronic databases and full text access to e-journals by the research and academic community of the country. Online databases are accessible via the Library portal, which provide access to full-text scholarly research articles beyond the physical confines of the library. Its a major step towards the establishment of network of all Indian universities and bring under one roof.

An MoU has been signed by the UGC-INFLIBNET and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Access to the following full text e-journals databases has been provided throughout the institute across all campuses of TISS

BOOK BANK FOR THE DISADVANTAGED GROUPS

Library has started a book bank facility for the benefit of students from socially and economically weaker sections of the society by building a Book Bank. It has developed a collection consisting multiple copies of course collections/suggested reading for every course being taught and issues them to such students.
